Well, this is my plan for rackmounting the 2nd Jen SX1000 into a rackmount module

The Jen SX1000 Rack Plans

The rackmount Jen SX1000 must have the following:
bulletKenton CV Sockets/Sub-board - so external CV and also Midi would work
bulletA Midi-to-CV converter that handles Pitchbend, Portamento/Glide, 1 Aux CV for the Filter and if more Aux CV's the better.
So NO Synhouse MidiJack. NO Doepfer MCV4 (since no portamento)
bullet

Glide is gone, so there's no need for the pot on the front panel

bulletMust have all the mods done for the Jen Kbd and adds extra mods not yet done - so other than the pots, the panel must have more space & holes for the additional pots and switches
bulletHas to be at least 2u because there are so many Pots, also the power transformer is taller than 1u.
bulletThe keyboard M110 PCB has to be cut, since it's too long.

Based on the above, i started drawing plans on the panel but found myself going round in circles. So i downloaded the Front Panel Designer and started doing rough panels.

This was what i first came up with - a 2u Jen Rack, roughly the same as the keyboard panel:

Then 1 night just before i was going to bed, i thought, since the Jen is pretty semi-modular (with the each board doing its own thing), why not make this rack semi-modular?
If so, the panel would have to be similar to the Korg MS-20 or the Analogue System SPAWN.

So, all the pots have to be squashed to one side more, and leave some space on the right for a patch panel. Seems like a 3u is needed,

SOCKETS
So what in/outs are there that could be made patchable?
I thought up a list:

LFO1 OUT
LFO2 OUT

LFO to Vibrato IN / LFO to PWM IN
LFO to VCF IN

VCO OUT to VCF
VCF IN from VCO

VCO Wave AUDIO OUT to VCF AUDIO INPUT
VCF AUDIO INPUT from VCO Wave/Noise Out

PWM to SAWx OUT
SAWx In from PWM

SAW OUT
SAWx OUT
SQUARE OUT
PULSE OUT
SUB-OSC OUT
White Noise1 Out
White Noise2 Out
Pink Noise Out

SAWx IN
SUB-OSC IN

Kenton CV IN
Kenton Gate IN
Kenton VCF IN
PW CV IN
Swell CV IN

Some of these are just OUTs and some have to be patched back to the INs, so some sockets have to be switchable (ie jack plugging in would break the internal connection, just like the MS-20 or SPAWN).

So i came up with a 3u panel:

24 sockets!! Whoa-ho!

To beef up the panel a bit, i added markings to the pots, so it looked similar to the original Jen....

Problem is, if i really sent this off to Germany and get the panel made, it'd cost me more than EUR 200 !! DAMN!

To be Continued.....  Above as of 2003/12/31
